Welcome to the Vetted in Vet Med podcast, where we keep it all the way real about life as two African American female veterinarians - the good, the bad, and the downright ugly. We are here to spill the tea on what it's really like behind the exam room doors, and trust us, it is not all cute puppies and kittens. From the emotional highs of saving lives to the heartbreak of euthanasia, and even to the days when we question everything, we're bringing you unfiltered conversations about the highs and lows of this profession. We'll talk about the emotional toll, the mental health struggles, and the burnout that so many of us vets face. Whether it's dealing with difficult clients, the financial reality of vet school debt, life outside of work, or the pressure of making life-or-death decisions daily, we're laying it all out. But we're not just here to vent -- we're also here to uplift, encourage, and educate.

Dr. Daveeta Levy

Dr. Daveeta Levy is a wife, mother, and dedicated veterinarian born in Houston, TX, by way of Trinidad & Tobago. She began her veterinary journey with a residency in laboratory animal medicine, later working as a Clinical Veterinarian before transitioning to small animal medicine. This shift led her to entrepreneurship, where she started her own mobile veterinary and in-home euthanasia practice. Today, she continues to work as a lab animal veterinarian, while providing veterinary relief services.

Beyond veterinary medicine, Dr. Levy is now on a personal journey of rediscovery, navigating the challenges of mental health and burnout within the profession. She is passionate about self-care and helping others to break free from feeling stuck. By sharing her experiences, she hopes to inspire and support fellow veterinarians and aspiring professionals. Through advocacy, honesty, and community, she strives to create a space where others feel seen, heard, and empowered.

Dr. Erma Ayanna Wilson

Dr. Erma Ayanna Wilson is a Jackson, MS native with deep roots in Louisiana. She always knew that she wanted to be a veterinarian while doing everything to meet that dream. To be able to provide a voice to the voiceless and gift people with the reassurance that their fur babies will be taken care of.

She found her love fulfilled at the prominent Mother Tuskegee University where she became a three time graduate, moving straight into clinical medicine experiencing corporate, private practice and relief work.

Extending her practice over a lifetime, she has been a practicing veterinarian for nearly a decade. She is more than excited to share her work and passion for veterinary medicine with her community.

She has since found more passions with becoming a mother of two, a wife, and house call business owner. With her gained experienced she will to continue to spread her gifts of animal health awareness and focus on mental and self care to the world.
